Telehealth Q&A

What is telehealth?

Telehealth connects you directly with an experienced medical provider through an online video connection.  It helps you to get the one-on-one medical guidance you need without traveling to the office.

Dr. Patel and Three Rivers Area Medical Associates provide individualized healthcare services for adults through the Spruce confidential telehealth platform.

The Three Rivers AMA providers can diagnose, treat, and provide ongoing management services through telehealth for a variety of acute illnesses and chronic disorders.

When should I consider a telehealth appointment?

Schedule a telehealth appointment if you have symptoms that you can’t manage on your own, such as:

  • Pain
  • Cough
  • High fever
  • Skin rash
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting

You can also book a telehealth visit for follow-up care during your recovery from an acute illness so the providers can assess the effectiveness of your treatment.

If you have a chronic health condition like heart disease or Type 2 diabetes, the medical specialists can meet with you regularly through the telehealth platform to monitor your health.

You can also schedule virtual visits to discuss any new symptoms you have or to ask questions about your chronic care management plan.

What can I expect during a telehealth visit?

Before your telehealth visit, the Three Rivers AMA staff provide a prescheduled appointment time and instructions to connect to the telehealth platform. You need a reliable internet connection to access the platform from your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

On the day of your appointment, you log on to the platform and meet with your provider via video conferencing technology. They review your medical history, assess any symptoms you have, and answer your health questions.

You may need to come into the office for blood work or other lab services. The providers can also refer you to a specialist if you need additional care. If you need prescription refills, you can request them during your telehealth visit.

Based on the nature of your condition, your provider may recommend regular follow-up visits via telehealth. For instance, if you’re managing heart disease or another chronic condition, they may want to meet with you every few weeks to see how you feel and ensure your treatment is working well.
